The Banana, herb or berry?

That and things about foodstuffs we never knew (or wanted to know in some cases), spout random food facts here.

ok, the banana plant belongs to the herb family (i couldn't believe it either...) but its fruit (the banana) is botanically speaking a berry.

and while i'm at it i might as well say:

the strawberry is not a berry (or a nut)

the peanut is not a nut

the tomato is a fruit

and the cucumber is the watermelon's cousin.

by the way mr.zoro, the reason why my eyesight hasn't reached the far end of vision, as in your case, is that I've, in contrast to yourself, been eating carrots instead of claiming to be 'eating' carrots...

this is a great show...popcorn aloha? *passes a bowl of popcorn to aloha_may*

And btw, zoro...do you speak English with more of a British or more of an American accent?

If you speak with more of an American accent, then DON'T, I repeat, DON'T say 'mum'

I for one could never tell why the Brits used Mum instead of Mom because to my reasoning, Mom is derived from the word Mother, which is written with an 'o', hence 'Mom'...unless the British say 'Muther'...

anyhoo, carry on, you were arguing about carrots

oh...looks like everyone's waiting for me to make my turn eh?

Well, let's look at this logically shall we...let's pretend that my eyesight has been steadily declining since the age of 10...and I've been eating carrots only when I felt like it or when I've been forced to, which alludes to the observation that there surely must have been severe draughts were days could pass until I was annoyingly reminded to eat another carrot. Now, I'm 15 years old. My eyesight hasn't stopped decreasing and as a way to halt this process I've been advised to wear hard contacts. Recently, I've, for some reason, started to increase my carrot intake. WOHA...now I can pretend that I've been REGULARLY eating carrots all my life and therefore complain about how they didn't do crap. And then after having gone on this trip for 10 days, that's spelled TEN, I ate TWO whole carrots as soon as I got back; pure evidence of my past carrot-eating habits...

I think not. Give it up pal, you've been caught in the net...best thing for you is to stop moving.

Oh ouch, retalliation right into the mid-section, will zoro from the blue corner respond? So far, it seems that the challenger afro_man from the red corner has the upper hand and with the bell about to go it seems like the judges will rule in the challenger's favour...

uuuuhhhrgggtth..LOOK what I've been trying to say all this time is that had you started regularly eating carrots EARLIER, sure you're eyesight would still have decreased (because it's "in ur genes"), BUT it might have decreased LESS over a LONGER period of TIME you freakin stubborn WALL. GET IT??? Just because it's in your genes for you're eyes to get worse doesn't mean taking preventive measures is completely useless!! The least they can do is SLOW the process DOWN!! Do I need to say it one more time?? If I'm a person with a weak immune system, does that mean that eating healthy stuff, doing sports regularly...will not give me any benefits at all because it's in my genes??? You never ate carrots regularly. That's the whole point. Sure you'd have one or two carrots on one day but on the next day you'd forget or whatever. OR assuming you did 'regularly' eat carrots one might suggest that ur eyesight could have gotten worse earlier...so either way carrots DO strengthen your eyesight. ADMIT IT. And don't get me started on those "multivitamin juices"!!!

Thursday, April 13, 2006 10:47:00 PM
Blogger afroman said...

How long did it take you to write this pointless comment? Carrots contain Vitamin A you complete *i*d*i*o*t* Ahhh look you're just hopeless. I'm not gonna waste any more energy on this. This post is called Banana, herb or berry anyways so stop wasting your time and energy to think hard and come up with theories of how doomed your eyes are because of your genes...you're simply a person with no healthy life style at all and that's why your vision decreased the way it did. Mine in contrast to you didn't because I did what you didn't do.

Friday, April 14, 2006 5:47:00 AM
Blogger Chio_Garu said...

ok, I'll drop the commentator act now, and zoro it is a scientifically proven fact that carrots DO help your eyesight...

You're just being stubborn (very stubborn)

Saying that carrots help your eyesight does not mean that eating them will magically restore your vision to peak condition, get it?

Tuesday, June 20, 2006 5:21:00 AM
Blogger Chio_Garu said...

I wanted to attempt to make sushi once, but I didn't because I didn't quite trust myself with raw fish since it needs to be extremely fresh...

Ah yes fugu...I know that it is considered a delicacy but there's just something about eating blowfish that I find...well perhaps a tad too daring. seeing as at least ten people a year die of fugu poisoning in Japan.

I want to try it some day, it's just the thought of eating raw fish that causes me to feel uneasy...that and a nasty forward e-mail about sushi my dear aloha-nesan sent me a while back...

I'll work up the courage some day...hey what about sashimi?
